Walsall Primary Care Trust UK, chooses t+ Medical® to help manage their Diabetic Patients
(Wed, 05 Dec 2007 16:45:54)
Walsall Primary Care Trust UK, chooses t+ Medical® to help manage their Diabetic Patients
t+ Medical®, the UK’s leading supplier of telemedicine solutions for long term conditions such as diabetes and asthma, is delighted to be chosen as a partner for telehealth services in Walsall, West midlands, UK. t+ diabetes will be used to help manage over 400 diabetic patients across the Walsall area, through the patients own mobile phone.
Walsall PCT are leading the way in telehealth with this latest initiative, which is being introduced to local GP’s on December 5th 2007.
Patients will be provided with the t+ diabetes system without any charge, directly onto their own mobile phone. t+ diabetes works in the same way as a patient diary, but it is fully interactive with the data entered by a patient being immediately interpreted by intelligent algorithms and then fed back to them in the form of simple graphs, both on to their phone-and on a personal web page. This allows the patient to track their condition, and monitor their vital signs giving them greater insight into their disease day by day.
The patient’s healthcare professionals will also be able to view this information, and provide additional help and advice to the patients, with the overall aim being a reduction in unnecessary hospital admissions.
Long term conditions currently account for 80% of GP visits, and the prevalence of such conditions in the UK is expected to reach 30% by 2025. The implications of this increase will lead an already stretched National Heath Service to breaking point. It is therefore clear and accepted that the current explosion in chronic diseases such as diabetes, COPD and other respiratory complications requires a new model of healthcare provision. This type of monitoring may be the only way to prevent healthcare systems around the world from going bankrupt
John Buchan, Director of Sales and Marketing at t+ Medical® said “We are delighted to be able to work with Walsall PCT on such a pioneering project. The patients will greatly benefit from receiving this system, as will their healthcare professionals. It will allow diabetics to be effectively managed and monitored without having to attend any additional appointments. We can’t completely avoid the progression of long term conditions such as diabetes, so it is only though providing potential solutions to them can we come close to managing them and reducing the inevitable financial impact they will have on the NHS. Walsall PCT have taken the first important steps in addressing the need for change in the management of long term conditions, and it is hoped that many more will follow-leading to greater control both for patients and their healthcare professionals."
t+Medical offer their disease management system at no cost to patients
(Fri, 26 Oct 2007 18:32:38)
t+ Medical®, the UK’s leading supplier of telemedicine solutions for chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma, announced today that they are now offering their disease management system at no cost to all appropriate patients.
By removing the barrier of cost to the end users, it is hoped more patients with long term conditions (LTC’s) such as Asthma, Diabetes, Blood Pressure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) will be able to take advantage of the t+ system and therefore improve the management of their condition.
Telemedicine is the only way to prevent healthcare systems around the world from going bankrupt.
Through effective observation of vital signs and symptoms, combined with a healthcare monitoring center, it has been clinically proven that exacerbations and emergency admissions can be dramatically reduced. t+ Medical® offer a solution to monitor a patients symptoms and vital signs through harnessing the power of the patients own mobile phone. The diary is fully interactive with the data entered by a patient being immediately interpreted and then fed back to them in the form of simple graphs, both on their mobile phone-and on a personal web page. This allows the patient to track their condition, and monitor their vital signs giving them greater insight into their disease day by day.
John Buchan, Director of Sales and Marketing at t+ Medical® said “We are delighted to now be in a position to offer our disease management systems without a charge to our patients. People with LTC’s often end up spending unnecessary time at their GP’s surgeries-or even worse being admitted to hospital, as a result of poor disease management. Through the power of the t+ system and their own mobile phone we hope these patients will now be able to monitor and manage their own condition more effectively and therefore reduce the strain on the NHS and themselves of emergency admissions and additional complications. There are currently 1.6 million people in the UK who could benefit from using the t+ system, and now with the removal of all cost barriers, they can begin to benefit through taking some control and monitoring their own disease management”
t+ Medical launches in America following successful second round funding
(Fri, 26 Oct 2007 18:25:48)
t+ Medical, the UK’s leading supplier of telemedicine solutions for sufferers of chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma, today announced that it has secured second round funding and launched its US venture, t+Medical Americas Inc to build on its success in the United Kingdom.
t+ Medical raised £4m from the founding shareholder Comvest Ltd, leading private equity firm SRPE and a consortium of UK doctors. The funding will be used to assist t+ Medical in expanding its UK operation and to continue investment in R&D, allowing it to realise its target for telemedicine of saving the NHS £1bn per year. Indeed, by recruiting 1,000 patients onto the t+ system Primary Care Trusts can save £768,000 per year in reduced healthcare costs and avoidable admissions which equates to a return of investment exceeding 300%. t+ Medical believes that today in the UK 1.6 million patients could benefit from this service, potentially saving the NHS £880 million per year.
The second round funding has allowed t+ Medical to enter the US market. t+ Americas, Inc. is located in Research Triangle Park of North Carolina. The office is now fully staffed and they are in discussions with leading heathcare organisations to incorporate t+ Medicals chronic disease management products and services into their offerings.
Tim Clover, chief executive officer at t+ Medical Ltd said: “Our move into the US and latest round of funding are testimony to the robustness of our products, business model and also the future of telemedicine. As chronic diseases reach epidemic proportions around the world our products and services allow healthcare systems to evolve from traditional reactive episodic hospital based care to continuous, proactive and preventative models of care with real-time monitoring of patients”.
t+ Medical was founded by Professor Tarassenko from Oxford University in 2002, funded with support from Comvest Ltd. Additional support came from trade partners including Johnson & Johnson, Vodafone and 02. It offers a range of telemedicine products that use the latest technology to help people living with chronic diseases to manage their conditions. It has also successfully completed 19 clinical trials in COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, Cancer, Asthma and Diabetes. t+ Medical® was delighted to be chosen in May this year as a partner in the successful demonstrator bid for telehealth in Newham, East London. t+ Diabetes will be used to monitor over one thousand patients following the Department of Health’s announcement. Newham was one of only three sites in England chosen to look at how telehealth and telecare can be best utilised on a wide scale.
Tim Clover continued: “80% of all GP visits and 60% of hospital bed occupancy (DoH –Improving Chronic Disease Management 3/3/2004) is now related to patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. This is being fuelled by increased life expectancy, lifestyle changes and environmental factors. Telemedicine is the only way to prevent healthcare systems around the world from going bankrupt. They were not built for the provision of long-term care. t+ Medical offers a viable, effective and proven solution to address this potential crisis.”
The latest round of funding will also aid the firm in further expanding its global presence, particularly in emerging markets, such as India and China. Two new executives will join the t+Medical board, Heidi Hseuh from SRPE and Major Dhillon, a private investor.
t+ Medical launch web based patient forum
(Mon, 15 Oct 2007 18:00:14)
t+Medical have now launched a patient forum, as the latest addition to their disease management website. Patients with asthma, diabetes and blood pressure, who are registered on the t+ disease management system, will now be able to use the forum to exchange comments and feedback regarding their long term conditions, disease management, and other useful information.
For ease of use, the forum is divided into each of the specific disease areas that the t+ system supports: asthma, diabetes and blood pressure. In addition there are sections on t+news, t+products, and a general section to support individual discussion. The Health Club will be updated with useful diet information, and healthy eating recipe ideas for users to try.
According to t+Medical Nurse Advisor Ciara McGuinness, “The forum will provide an excellent opportunity for patients to chat with one another and compare stories on managing their conditions. Any problems or anxieties they may have can be discussed with others going through the same experience. It will allow them to speak freely amongst themselves, without the influence or judgement of their GP or nurse.”
t+ Marketing Manager Anna Griffiths said “The idea of the forum is to get our users chatting and sharing useful information between themselves, and with us. Coping with a long term condition such as Diabetes can sometimes be a lonely experience, so hopefully the forum will provide somewhere for our users to chat with one another. From a t+ perspective the forum is an excellent platform for us to communicate with our users directly, so we can share product updates, news and information as it happens.”

Department of Health chooses t+ Medical in Newham
(Thu, 24 May 2007 13:00:00)
t+ Medical is delighted to be chosen as a partner in the successful demonstrator bid for telehealth in Newham, East London. t+ Diabetes will
be used to monitor over one thousand patients following the Department of Health's announcement.
Newham was one of only three sites in England chosen to look at how best telehealth and telemedicine can be best utilised on wide scale. The DOH has awarded £12 million to teams from Newham, Kent and Cornwall.
The t+ Medical system can be used in a number of different long term conditions and allows healthcare professionals to more effectively manage diseases such as diabetes. The easy to use system harnesses the power of the modern mobile phone turning it into a health computer in your pocket and delivers real time vital signs monitoring. Intelligent algorithms prioritise patients according to their needs which allow healthcare professionals to spend time on those who need help the most. This is key to delivering one of the main DOH objectives in reducing emergency hospital bed days and admissions.
Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt said "Improving patient care with new scientific advances and innovation is vital if the NHS is to continue to offer the very best services…..Remote devices mean greater choice and independence for patients, with more people able to monitor and look after their own health. So a person with diabetes can have their blood sugar monitored from home -meaning less unexpected or emergency trips to hospital."
According to t+ Medical CEO Tim Clover “Our partnership with Newham represents a significant development for telemedicine in the UK. Clinical trials show that the t+ (think positive) system offers real clinical benefits to the patient while saving the healthcare systems many times the roll-out investment. We are delighted with the opportunity to prove the benefits of our technology on such a public stage.”
t+ Medical launch new t+ Asthma product to coincide with World Asthma Day
(Wed, 02 May 2007 13:00:00)
t+ asthma has launched a new patient prioritisation website designed to help healthcare professionals to better manage their asthmatic patients. Now with just a few clicks patients who are struggling to control their disease can be identified and helped. Early intervention in asthma can prevent exacerbations that lead to complications and possibly hospital admission.
The new system allows the healthcare professional not only to see individual patient peak flow and inhaler use but also compares and relates the two. t+ Asthma also has a pollution forecast driven by a direct link to the Met Office that gives accurate localised environmental information. This allows both the patient and healthcare professional to spot trends and avoid potential complications.
A person is admitted to hospital every 8 minutes in England because of their asthma. That's on average 185 people per day and one in six people require further emergency care again within two weeks, yet 75% of admissions for asthma are avoidable and could save the NHS in England an estimated £43.7 million a year.
BBC Radio Oxford devoted time in its morning schedule to World Asthma Day and t+ Medical was invited to speak to highlight the difficulties that asthma can cause and talk about how closer, more effective monitoring can limit exacerbations and prevent admission into hospital.
